Job Summary: 

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, this position`s primary responsibility is overseeing all maintenance aspects of the Meridian Community Swimming Pool. This position will also have the responsibility of training other employees to assist with maintenance activities as needed. Additionally, this position is required to teach swim lessons, fulfill position as Lifeguard, and work in front office if needed. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Attend all required meeting, trainings and in-services.
  • Lifeguarding rotation as assigned per shift.
  • Follow all pool policies and procedures.
  • Communication of any safety concerns to supervisor or pool manager immediately, as patron safety is the number one concern.
  • Assist with maintenance activities as assigned (picking up trash, checking locker rooms, replacing supplies, etc.)
  • Become familiar with curriculum for level being taught, and teach the lessons.
  • Ability to be patient with children and parents while teaching swimming lessons.
  • Responsible for preparation of certificates for each lesson session.
  • Responsible for filing all appropriate paperwork with the Ellis & Associates.
  • Punctual and reliable attendance – students quickly get attached to their instructor and depend on that instructor to be present for the lesson.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned.
  • Meet with Pool Manager and other staff as necessary.
  • Report concerns to Pool Manager.
  • Run cash register in pool office as assigned.
  • Train all other maintenance employees to follow pool maintenance and repair policies and procedures.
  • Train all other maintenance employees to properly handle chemicals and equipment.
  • Filing and backwashing of chlorine and water each day.
  • Oversee all maintenance and repairs on pool facility and related equipment. Troubleshoot and fix what can be fixed in-house. 
  • Notify Pool Manager of maintenance and repairs that cannot be feasibly done in-house.
  • Constant communication with pool manager on maintenance and pool safety issues.
  • Responsible for the organization and cleanliness of the chemical rooms and pump rooms.
  • Communicate any supply needs to the pool manager (i.e. toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc.).

Job Specifications:

  • Must possess current Certified Pool Operators certification.
  • Ability to concentrate and not be easily distracted.

  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of pool facilities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical applications.

Knowledge, Skills, &Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to work weekdays and weekends
  • Must be available in the early morning hours prior to the pool being used.
  • Must have the ability to work 40 hours a week. 
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills for interacting with parents, participants, and spectators;
  • Ability to maintain basic forms related to swim lessons;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with respect to citizen groups, other city personnel and the public;
  • Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the job;
  • Ability to work as a team player;
  • Integrity in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills;

Licensing and Certification:

  • Must have the ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operators certification, as well as a Lifeguard certification through Ellis and Associates.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Work is performed primarily outside. Location can be subject to changing environmental conditions. Precautions should be taken to appropriately deal with weather conditions.  Occasionally work will occur in an office environment.  Either environment can range from low noise levels to loud and have intermittent disruptions.

  • Requires constant movement and the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits employee to communicate effectively.
  • Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and to accomplish work.
  • Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to permit employee to function safely.
  • May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions and toxic/caustic chemicals. Proper protective equipment should be worn when appropriate.
  • Noise levels can range from quiet to loud, and appropriate ear protection should be worn.

Travel Requirements:

  • Local travel is occasionally required.
