Behavioral Health Therapist/Counselor

Description:

Objective: To provide outpatient services to participants who are recovering from a severe and persistent mental illness that promotes recovery, assists the member to integrate with his/her community, and provides services aimed at helping the member improve his/her quality of life.

Job Description: Psychotherapy is delivered by a qualified provider that has an extensive back ground in the knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Minimum Qualifications:

· LCSW, LPC, LCPC, LMFT: Do not require supervision.

· LMSW-requires supervision

· Current Enhanced background check

· Experience working with high risk populations.

· Ability to deal with crisis situations.

· Good documentation skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to establish rapport.

· Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals.

· Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-oriented, non-

judgmental, open personal qualities, and a clear sense of boundaries.

· A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both participants and fellow employees.

· Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally-diverse families and

communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.

· Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.

Job Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

· Entering, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.

· Keeping up-to-date information and applying new knowledge to your job.

· Partner with providers to improve participant outcomes.

· Translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used.

· Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members

· Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.

· Evaluate participant satisfaction and quality of care provided.

· As reports or other documents are received, review the document, document the review by initialing and dating the document, and place the document in the participant’s file. If there is any follow up needed or unusual incidents noted, document observation in the participant’s case progress notes.

· Development of assessments, therapy treatment plans, completion of 90-day reviews, and complete updates to the treatment plan as needed due to change in circumstances to individual treatment.

Willingness to use reliable personal transportation in work capacity.

Adhere to standards and guidelines set by participant’s benefits to care.

Adhere to agency policy, procedures and the professional code of ethics.

Physical Demands

· Regularly required to communicate in person or by telephone.

· Must be able to travel to participant locations, if applicable.

Work Environment

A high degree of stress is possible when working with individuals that suffer from a serious mental illness. The position does not normally involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues; but it may require performing unplanned tasks where exposure may occur. The position requires the use of standard precautions.
