Under the direction of the Economic Development Administrator, the Business Liaison performs a variety of tasks and activities to enhance job growth and expansion of the City’s economic base through business retention, expansion, and attraction efforts. The position serves as the business contact and liaison, providing assistance to businesses, coordinating efforts with other public agencies and economic development resources, and facilitate discussions between businesses and the City in collaboration with other City staff. The position also develops and executes economic development marketing and outreach activity. Qualified candidates must be able to work independently to initiate efforts, establish objectives, and implement tactics to achieve Citywide strategic goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Implements and monitors programs which encourage economic development in the City.
Conducts technical research and analysis,
Prepares prospect proposals and updates demographic and site information; maintains current data regarding the community to prospective business clients.
Plans and prepares advertising and publicity materials; plans and implements business education programs and represents economic development and redevelopment efforts.
Develops work plans, timelines and resource allocations for assigned projects.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings, particularly small business, chamber of commerce, regional and state economic development organizations.
Maintains a robust network of internal and external stakeholders and professionals that can assist in accomplishing the City’s Comprehensive and Strategic Plan initiatives as they relate to economic development.
Keeps abreast of market opportunities, trends, innovations and information which may impact program goals and objectives and initiates appropriate strategies and policy change recommendations.
Supports business retention, expansion and attraction, by assisting in the following:
Participates in the development of the economic development division’s annual budget.
Assists in the preparation of and implements a City-wide economic development marketing strategy.
responsible for the creation and production of marketing materials and social media content.
Coordinates small business workshops and facilitates business needs broadly and individually for Meridian businesses.
Negotiates and resolves sensitive and controversial issues.
Works with the Meridian Chamber of Commerce to enhance tourism-related strategies.
Serves as alternate to the Mayor at business ribbon cuttings and coordinates talking points and City attendance for such activities.
May supervise interns and other employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, business administration, public administration, communications, economics, or a closely related field preferred; plus minimum of three (3) years of progressive, professional level experience with a governmental entity or private sector professional level experience which includes project coordination, marketing, and/or financial management; or equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job;
Experience working in a professional capacity with federal, state, or local economic development/business assistance programs preferred.

Must have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to effectively establish priorities and complete multiple, competing and time-dependent projects with superior attention to detail.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department personnel, city officials and the general public.
Ability to communicate, meet and engage with the public and co-workers with respect in a pleasant, professional, and courteous manner.
Integrity in the performance of assigned tasks.
Must be able to provide exceptional customer service and exhibit outstanding professionalism.
Must be willing to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment and display an attitude of cooperation with the ability to work professionally and effectively with others.

Must have demonstrated excellent oral and written marketing skills to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and the public in face-to-face meetings, one-on-one settings, and in groups.
Operate with proficiency a variety of office equipment to include an office computer and a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, GIS, analytical, and project management software applications, as well as graphic and presentation programs including:
Must hold a valid State of Idaho Driver’s License and safe driving record.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is usually performed in coordination with business customers at their businesses or remotely.
Constantly requires sitting at a desk or computer terminal for long periods of time and ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the public and other department members.
Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and computer screen to accomplish work.
Travel is occasionally required.
