Prepare bids, quantity survey, cost estimates and negotiate with contractors the opportunity to provide opening and specialty requirements for the project. Detail all elements of project including requirements to meet expectations of the architect and contractor while complying with building codes, fire and life safety codes and ADA regulations. Primary team member to assist with field installation as needed for all projects requiring two people for proper installation. Develop business relationships with architects, developers, and owners to encourage involvement in the design/construction team as a consultant and specification writer early in the process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Quotes open bid projects and negotiates projects by preparing take-offs, analyzing what is needed taking into consideration special preps and finishes, collecting price quotes from manufacturers, shipping quotes for delivery, writing specifications, and calling on architects, developers, contractors, and owners.
  2. Assists installation specialist as required in the field for product items needing more than one installer.
  3. Establishes and maintains relationships with customers, vendors, architects, developers, contractors, and owners to discuss product promotion.
  4. Coordinates jobs/projects by preparing hardware schedules and submittals, assisting in scheduling of product readiness for contractor by job requirements.
  5. Coordinates sales orders with purchasing department for delivery of shipment and operation of merchandise to insure goods can be properly requisitioned in a time frame to not extend project completion.
  6. Accurately prepares Submittal books with technical data sheets and catalog cut sheets with information needs to be scheduled and presented to allow architect to verify function and design; work with contractor and coordinate with any other subcontractors or suppliers.
  7. Reviews submittals and amends approved submittals returned from architect.
  8. Prepare O&M (Operations & Maintenance) manual with product warranty to provide owner with complete information on product to allow for proper maintenance, repair or replacement of any component for his facility.
  9. Completes work orders and job summaries to keep production team informed of project requirements.
  10. Collaborates with accounting department by filling out progress billings and job costing.
  11. Verifies orders for accuracy and approves customer purchase order(s), confirming language, job scope and amounts are correct then submits to Division Manager.
  12. Partners with entire team to ensure all change order(s) are processed by carrying forward all information from approved changes to work and file copy and ensure accounting gets all necessary paperwork.
  13. Represents Hardware Sales & Service professionally.

QUALIFICATIONS – Valid driver’s license. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Commercial hardware experience or equivalent (minimum 2 years) or 2 years college preferred but not required; Hollow metal experience is preferred.  Construction experience required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS – Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports, submittals, RFI’s (request for information), substitution requests, and fill out company paperwork such as daily project logs, progress billing and job costing. Ability to work cooperatively, speak effectively and listen effectively to customers, contractors and/or employees of organization through writing, telephone or personal contact. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES – Must have knowledge of use with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Must have the ability to locate various online vendor websites be and familiar with Internet use. Must be able to accurately read and use a tape measure, and quickly perform accurate basic mental math computations.  Proficient with basic tradesmen tools: tape measure, cordless drills, screwdriver, level, etc.

While performing the duties in the field the employee is regularly working near and/or with electrical power tools exposing the employee to frequent vibrations.  The noise level in the work environment is often noisy and would require basic ear protection.
