Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position is responsible for overseeing all Ellis certification courses, continuous trainings, evaluations, scheduling, and overall performance of Lifeguards, and Swim Lesson Instructors at the Meridian Community Swimming Pool. This position also acts as the Aquatics Coordinator in their absence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•Attends and helps facilitate all staff trainings, meetings and in-services;
•Acts as Assistant Aquatics Coordinator when Coordinator is off duty;
•Fully comprehends all pool policies and procedures in place, and can confidently explain them to any individual inquiring;
•Communicates any safety concerns to Aquatics Coordinator, or Recreation Manager immediately, as staff and patron safety holds top priority;
•Assigns daily cleaning tasks to staff on shift, as well as assists with any maintenance, or cleaning task assigned either on deck, or inside facility itself;
•Work with Aquatics coordinator to develop, and plan out seasonal schedule for all programs including swim lessons, open swim, swim team, and any other offerings;
•Become familiar with REC 1 software, and help Aquatics Coordinator input all lessons and levels
•Familiarizing oneself with Rec 1`s layout, (and Swim Lesson curriculum), in order to assist Aquatics Coordinator with Swim Lesson Registration, answer any questions regarding lessons, and help with transactions, refunds or transfers all throughout the season;
•Ability to be patient, communicate clearly and respectfully with all patrons including children, while working in front office, out on the pool deck, during swim lessons, and at all times;
•Appropriately represents the Meridian Pool, and the City of Meridian in a positive manner;
•Helps Aquatics Coordinator oversee, and ensure that staff is provided with all equipment and supplies needed for guarding, lessons, maintenance, etc.;
•Assists Aquatic coordinator with evaluating all potential lifeguards, and filing appropriate paperwork with Ellis and Associates; Examples: Written certification tests, staff certifications, in service logs, emergency report, audits, etc.);
•Punctual and reliable attendance to all shifts, meetings, trainings, etc.;
•Possesses self-initiative to help out as needed throughout facility - whether by Aquatics Coordinator, lifeguard, lesson instructor, maintenance, etc.;
•Attends individual staff member meetings, evaluations, and disciplinary action discussions, at the discretion of Aquatics Coordinator;
•Assists Aquatics Coordinator with developing policies for lifeguards, follows policies, and enforces said policies for ALL staff members;
•Helps conduct staff interviews, pre-season staff meetings, assists with onboarding employees, assisting Aquatics coordinator with training and certifying all staff, as well as completing any other pre-season preparation that needs completing;
•Obtain Ellis Lifeguard instructor license (which includes Lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications), as well as attend and help facilitate all in-services, and other continuous training;
•Become familiar with Ellis Pectora software, creating classes, overseeing completion of all Lifeguard and Lesson instructor coursework, and communicate accordingly with local Ellis representative.
•Assist Aquatics Coordinator with all facility scheduling to ensure a fair and balanced workload among all staff members.
•Help conduct Lifeguard, and Swim Lesson Instructor evaluations, and provide any additional training needed after reviewing with each staff member.
•In the absence of the Aquatics coordinator – and with permission from Aquatics coordinator, the Assistant Manager is responsible for conducting *necessary* White Caps, for individuals on stand who either:
A.) Have not been evaluated on lifeguard performance recently or
B.) Are not meeting Ellis standards, ultimately reflecting poorly upon the Facility, and in turn puts patrons at risk.
•Communicates any concerns clearly and directly to the Aquatics Coordinator in a prompt manner. Assistant Aquatics Coordinator also communicates any disagreements, or differing opinions in an open, and non – aggressive manner.
•Run cash register in front office during business hours, and assist Aquatics Coordinator with daily till opening and closing procedures as needed.
•Oversees staff responsible for pool deck organization, cleanliness, and locker room cleaning. stocking all necessary lesson certificates, flyers, forms, prizes, etc.

•Must possess current Lifeguard instructor certification, as well as lesson instructor certification.

Knowledge, Skills, &Abilities:
•Must have the ability to work weekdays and weekends
•Must have the ability to work a minimum of 40 hours a week.
•Must demonstrate strong communication skills for interacting with parents, participants, and spectators;
•Ability to maintain basic forms related to swim lessons;
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with respect to citizen groups, other city personnel and the public;
•Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the job;
•Ability to work as a team player;
•Integrity in the performance of assigned tasks.
•Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills;
Licensing and Certification:
•Must have the ability to obtain a Lifeguard Instructor Certification and Swim Lesson Instructor Certification.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Work is performed primarily outside. Location can be subject to changing environmental conditions. Precautions should be taken to appropriately deal with weather conditions. Occasionally work will occur in an office environment. Either environment can range from low noise levels to loud and have intermittent disruptions.
•Requires constant movement and the ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
•Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits employee to communicate effectively.
•Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and to accomplish work.
•Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to permit employee to function safely.
•May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions and toxic/caustic chemicals. Proper protective equipment should be worn when appropriate.

•Local travel is occasionally required.
