Sheriff's Labor Detail (SLD) Officer provides supervision, leadership, and transportation for participants assigned to the Sheriff's Labor Detail (SLD) program across a variety of work sites throughout Ada County. Oversees daily work crews by ensuring participant accountability, safety, productivity, and compliance with program expectations. Coordinates daily job site assignments with county departments and community partners to support efficient crew placement and successful project completion. The position is located at the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Court Services Bureau.Essential Functions Supervises participants in the SLD program at various job sitesEnforces program rules to maintain security and safety of labor detail participantsConducts a daily check‑in of individuals to ensure they are physically capable to perform assigned tasksEnsures participants are prepared for their assigned job and properly outfitted for the weather conditionsTransports participants safely to job site through the use of either a passenger van or passenger busObtains and maintains applicable Commercial Driver's License (CDL)Ability to safely operate a bus or other large vehicle with a trailer, including turning and backing in tight spacesUtilizes computer software to maintain accurate records and payment logsEvaluates and mitigates potential risk events associated with the SLD programPerforms related work as requiredAdditional Functions Coordinates with external stakeholders for daily work crew placement, nature of work to be completed and tools necessary for each projectAttend regularly scheduled safety briefingsConducts regular work site auditsJob Requirements High school diploma or equivalentPrevious experience working with and/or supervising criminal offenders preferredMust be at least 21 years of ageMust be able to work weekendsMust be able to utilize good verbal skills to de‑escalate confrontational situationsMust have a valid and current driver's licenseMust have or be able to obtain a Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and air brake endorsementKnowledge of computer systems, file structure, and thorough knowledge of MS OfficeSkill in report writing and record keepingAbility to supervise offenders effectivelyAbility to obtain first aid and CPR certificationsAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writingAbility to quickly react to changes in schedule due to unforeseen circumstancesAbility to evaluate and recognize potential adverse or unsafe situations and react according to department policyAbility to perform the duties of the position without a direct threat to the health or safety of the incumbent or othersOther Requirements Must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph, credit check, and background investigation prior to hireMust receive a negative pre‑employment drug test per the Department of transportation drug and alcohol requirementsThis position will be required to participate in state mandated drug and alcohol screeningWork Environment & Physical Demands Most of the work is performed throughout Ada County and will take place outdoors and may involve potential exposure to extreme weather conditionsMust be able to lift in excess of 50 lbsMust be able to perform physical activity that requires the ability to balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull and graspRequires the ability to stand for long periods of time and walk for several miles per shiftDISCLAIMER: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
