POSITION: SecurityCATEGORY: ClassifiedDEPARTMENT: Safety/SecurityLOCATION: South Middle SchoolREPORTS TO: PrincipalSUMMARY: To work under the direction of the principal to create a safe learning environment for all students and staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Works closely with Administration, Teachers, and CounselorsSets appropriate boundaries with students and familiesProvide positive reinforcement and feedbackBuild relationships and provide stability for studentsMediate between studentsCreates a safe learning environmentEncourage students to strive to meet their highest potentialTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesProvide for the security and safety of students and staffAssists with supervision of students prior to school, during lunch periods, and after schoolReports all violations of laws, rules or regulations, and school policy to PrincipalAdvises school administration of circumstances and/or situations which may create potential harm or exposureEscorts students to various locations within the building when necessaryMonitors school grounds to insure that there is no inappropriate use of school facilitiesAttend faculty meetings as requiredAssume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as reading professional journals and other publicationsSeek assistance should emergencies ariseRepresent the school district in a positive mannerKnow and follow school district policy and chain of commandPerform other duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NoneQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:High School Diploma or GED requiredPrevious security experience preferredExperience working with children preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Demonstrate aptitude for working with adolescentsWorks well with students, staff, and the publicExcellent organizational skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAble to work under pressures and deadlinesMaintain confidentiality of staff and studentsCOMMUNICATION SKILLS:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret governmental regulations and legal documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or the general public. Ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred.PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS:Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to conduct basic math functions, as well as manipulate formulas in spreadsheets.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
