Tax Auditors interact with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns and prepare reports of findings, conclusions, and recommendations. The position is reclassified to a Tax Auditor 2 upon successful completion of the underfill requirements.ResponsibilitiesCommunicate orally and in writing with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns through the review and analysis of accounting systems, financial statements, work papers, tax and payroll records, and other related documents in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable tax laws.Research and analyze data for accuracy to ensure compliance with State tax laws and regulations.Identify legal issues and apply appropriate statutes, rules and legal precedents.Prepare audit findings, summaries, and supporting documentation.Maintain compliance with ethics standards and confidentiality requirements when handling taxpayer information and conducting audit activities.Participate in team audits.Travel to taxpayers' offices to conduct audits (Dependent on the specific position's job duties and responsibilities).Audit tax returns involving various tax types, which may include business and individual income, estate, mine license, property, sales and use, and withholding taxes.Minimum QualificationsGood knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
