Journeyman Lineman

Probst Electric Inc., a premier utility construction company, is seeking Journeyman Linemen in North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. This position involves the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems, including overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines.

As a Journeyman Lineman, you will:

  • Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical lines and equipment.
  • Install, replace, and maintain transformers, switches, conductors, insulators, and other system components.
  • String, sag, and connect wire; set poles; climb structures; and operate aerial lifts and bucket trucks as required.
  • Follow all Probst Electric, Quanta Services, OSHA, DOT, and client safety standards on every job.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot line outages, faults, and service interruptions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, staking sheets, and line diagrams to ensure accurate project execution.
  • Operate digger derricks, cranes, pullers, tensioners, and other specialty line-construction equipment.
  • Mentor and support Apprentice Linemen, promoting strong skills, safe work habits, and team culture.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and job-site activities.

Required qualifications include:

  • Journeyman Lineman Certification from a recognized DOL or equivalent apprenticeship program.
  • Valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain) with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in transmission, distribution, or substation line work.
  • Proven commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to climb, lift, and perform physically demanding tasks safely.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours as needed for project demands.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with energized ("hot line") work using hot sticks or rubber glove methods.
  • Familiarity with underground systems and conduit installation.
  • Current OSHA 10/ET&D, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant safety certifications.
