Communications Summer Student Intern

The Communications Summer Student Intern works directly with the Communications Department to support internal and external district communications. This internship provides hands-on experience in content creation, digital media, and communication strategies while developing workplace and professional skills. This is a temporary, hourly paid summer position.

Performance Responsibilities

The primary function of this position is to provide communications, content creation, and general office support to the Communications Department. Duties may include content development, digital media support, and event preparation. Work is performed under the supervision of Communications staff in an office and/or school environment, following District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties

Student Intern Communications Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and editing written materials including announcements, newsletters, and website content;
  • Support digital communications including website updates and social media content (after training);
  • Assist with photography and/or videography at district events (after training);
  • Help organize and maintain digital files and communication materials;
  • Support event preparation and communication-related activities;
  • Conduct basic research for communication projects;
  • Follow district branding and communication standards in all work products;
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support;
  • Participate in training sessions to build communication and media skills;
  • Perform all duties in accordance with District policies, safety guidelines, and workplace expectations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: Basic writing, editing, and communication principles; Social media platforms and digital tools;

Ability to: Communicate effectively in writing and verbally; Work collaboratively in a team environment; Manage time and meet deadlines; Be detail-oriented and organized; Adapt to changing priorities.

Skills and Knowledge Developed

Use of digital communication tools and platforms; Basic photography and videography skills; Website and social media content management; Written communication and editing skills; Professional communication and workplace skills.

Qualifications

Must be a current West Ada School District high school student; Must be at least 16 years of age by the start of summer employment.

Essential Physical Abilities

Ability to operate computers and basic media equipment; move between work areas; and carry light equipment as needed.
