Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Animal Scientist to conduct research and apply scientific methods to improve the efficiency, health, and productivity of livestock and animal production. This position will contribute to sustainable agricultural practices through research, innovation, and collaboration with farmers, agribusinesses, and educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct experiments on livestock to study nutrition, reproduction, genetics, disease control, and management practices.
  • Analyze data and interpret results to improve animal productivity and welfare.
  • Collaborate with local farmers, veterinarians, and agricultural extension agents to apply findings.
  • Develop and implement feeding programs, breeding plans, and health protocols.
  • Monitor animal growth, health indicators, and environmental conditions.
  • Prepare technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations for scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Harvest biological samples to prepare for on-farm and third-party laboratory analysis.
  • Analyze colony-forming units and prepare petri dishes for on-farm laboratory analysis.
  • Perform selective dry cow therapy to prepare animals for late-term pregnancies.
  • Maintain a clean cow bedding environment by harrowing and scraping pens using motorized farm equipment.
  • Develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control of animals.
  • Study and maintain nutritional requirements while administering the total mixed ration at the feed bunk.
  • Select animals for specialized treatment based on visual health conditions and electronic records.
  • Administer and monitor the milk intake of calves.
  • Administer and monitor starter grain intake of calves.
  • Research nutrition program by taking weights and height measurements of calves under 100 days in age.
  • Advise management on areas of improvement for the dairy's success.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in animal science, Veterinary Science, or a related field.
  • I year experience working on a dairy farm.
  • Strong understanding of animal physiology, genetics, nutrition, and behavior.
  • Familiarity with precision agriculture and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Work Environment:
  • Combination of field and office work.
  • Physical ability to handle livestock and work in farm environments.
