Join our team as a Seasonal Maintenance Worker and help keep city parks, public spaces, and facilities clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. In this hands-on role, you'll assist with a variety of tasks including grounds upkeep, facility cleaning, basic repairs, and general maintenance across parks, public rights-of-way, and city infrastructure. Every day brings something new, and your work will directly support the spaces where our community gathers, plays, and connects.
This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy physical, active work and take pride in maintaining beautiful public spaces while gaining valuable experience in maintenance and construction support. This position is open to individuals age 19 and older and works full-time, 40 hours per week, for up to 8 months from March through October.
This position:

- Works hours including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Essential Functions- Turf Grass Trimmers and Lawn Mowers - Operates push or self-propelled lawn mowers following prescribed weekly schedule. Transports self and equipment from site to site using pickup truck and trailer. Work may be performed adjacent to or on public rights-of-way. Operates self-propelled units with horsepower greater than 20 horsepower capacity. Units are riding mowers with rotary type cutting capability from 60" to 15'. Must safely load and unload at multiple sites daily. Care of machinery and safety around the public is paramount.
- Landscape - Plants and weeds flower beds, prunes shrubs and plants, shears ornamental shrubs, cleans display fountains, recognizes and reports various fungi, seed and/or sod installation, picks up litter. Disposes of debris. Applies light herbicides and fertilizers under direct supervision.
- Trash Collection - Empties 30-gallon trash receptacles, lines containers with a plastic bag, replaces lid and picks up scattered debris throughout the parks on a scheduled route.
- Restroom Cleaning - Follows prescribed schedule consisting of approximately 20 sites on a given day. Without supervision, cleans facilities that incur frequent vandalism. Uses strong chemicals to achieve sanitary results.
- Tree Care - Assists with pruning, planting and removal of trees. Uses chainsaws, handsaws, pole pruners, etc. for tree maintenance. Under supervision, works with and around heavy equipment such as wood chippers, stump grinders and tree spades.
- Irrigators - Operates, repairs and programs electronic sprinkler systems. Has specific sites assigned for troubleshooting. Operates pumps, wells, electronic controllers and valves.
- Sports Fields - Preps ball diamonds and fields to achieve safe and professional playing conditions. Exercises independent judgment to accomplish very specific conditions. Repairs sprinklers, cleans restrooms, lays out field dimensions. Operates machinery to accomplish results.
- Construction - Performs general maintenance on building sites, furniture repairs and replacement, painting, concrete/asphalt repairs, carpentry and plumbing repairs.
- Cemetery - Assists with set-up, care and maintenance of burial sites; cleans and straightens head-stones; string trims, mows.

RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Experience, And Training - Working knowledge of construction and landscape techniques; general cleaning and janitorial methods.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training - Two years of construction, general landscape or agricultural experience.

Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds. The noise level is frequently very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity. Additional physical efforts include: lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.
Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical hazards. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals.
19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
