Position Overview The Controller & Internal Operations Manager is responsible for leading Spotlight's Accounting and People & Culture (HR) functions while ensuring operational alignment across internal systems and processes. This role provides financial oversight, manages compliance, and supports strategic planning through accurate reporting, forecasting, and operational execution.
This individual serves as a key member of the Leadership Team, ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and alignment with company goals.
Key Responsibilities - Lead, manage, and hold accountable the Internal Operations Department (Accounting & HR; 3-5 team members)
- Develop and maintain departmental structure, performance expectations, and accountability systems
- Support cross-functional alignment across all departments
- Oversee daily accounting operations including A/P, A/R, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Ensure accuracy and completion of monthly financial statements and close processes
- Manage payroll processing, tax reporting, and compliance
- Conduct financial analysis including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow management
- Maintain historical financial records and ensure document retention compliance
- Develop and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets
- Lead forecasting efforts including 5-year projections and capital expenditure planning
- Prepare financial reporting for Leadership and Board of Directors meetings
- Develop and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Manage banking systems, credit cards, and financial access controls
- Oversee asset management processes including purchasing, inventory tracking, and reconciliation
- Monitor departmental performance and implement process improvements
- Oversee People & Culture operations including compliance, recruiting, reporting, and culture initiatives
- Ensure alignment of HR processes with company strategy and compliance standards
- Support payroll systems and workforce data integrity (Paylocity preferred)
- Manage insurance, credit, and risk-related processes
- Oversee contract management including vendor, service, and venue agreements
- Ensure compliance with financial, employment, and regulatory requirements
- Prepare and submit ESOP and 401(k) reporting documentation
- Support ESOP valuation process including forecasting and financial modeling
- Ensure compliance with ESOP regulations and reporting standards
- Manage collections from clients, vendors, and team members as needed
- Support event operations and production processes as needed
- Participate in weekly, quarterly, and annual Leadership Team meetings
Key Qualifications & Competencies - Strong leadership skills with ability to Lead, Manage, and hold others Accountable (LMA)
- Deep understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel
- Experience with payroll systems and reporting (Paylocity preferred)
- Knowledge of financial forecasting, valuation, and budgeting
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- High attention to detail and process-driven mindset
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Experience with POS integrations and financial systems preferred
- ESOP knowledge and experience preferred
Education & Experience - 3+ years of Accounting Management experience required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- CPA or CMA designation preferred (not required)
- QuickBooks Certification highly desired
Work Environment & Physical Demands This role may require travel up to five (5) times per year for 3-8 days at a time, including regional and national events, strategic planning sessions, and industry engagements. Travel may occur at various times throughout the year.
Team Members must be comfortable sharing hotel accommodations with same-gender colleagues during event assignments.
