The Division of Management Services is recruiting for a Bureau Chief of Operations located at our Boise location. Forward-thinking, customer-centric and safety-minded are key attributes for this leadership position. The Bureau Chief plays a central role in business operations, often times behind the scenes, to make a difference in the lives of Idahoans including all department employees. The Bureau Chief reports to the Division Administrator and oversees our Background Check Unit, building facilities, construction and motor pool statewide. This position is a key contributor to the division's leadership team and participates in strategic planning, budget, legislative and various division and department initiatives. It also has the unique opportunity to support and collaborate with all divisions in the department as well as external partners.
This position is a non-classified position and exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Oversee the daily operations for the Background Check Unit (BCU) and the Facilities team.
- Provide administrative oversight for BCU and Facilities.
- Provide leadership and direction related to legislation and IDAPA rules.
- Establish and maintain bureau goals, operational metrics, policies and procedures.
- Plan, organize, and direct work assignments and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local standards.
- Manage budgets.
- Act as a liaison with elected, appointed, and federal/state public officials.
- Ensure quality control for all programs.
- Manage and respond to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for technical assistance.
- Be an active part of the DMS Core Leadership Team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the preferred qualifications for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.
- Experience with the legislative process. Typically gained by at least one year of working with IDAPA rules or legislation.
- Experience with sensitive information. Typically gained by at least one year of working with confidential information.
- Experience with quality assurance/quality control. Typically gained by at least one year of working with programs that were assessed through metrics or other processes.
