Fuel Compliance Technician

  2026-02-12     Stinker Stores     Boise,ID
Description:

Fuel Compliance Technician

The Fuel Compliance Technician is the reason our fuel systems don't end up on the evening news. They keep assigned locations in line with all local, state, and federal regulations for underground and aboveground storage tanks- because "mostly compliant" is not a thing. This role keeps fuel dispensing equipment alive and well through installation, repair, maintenance, and daily oversight, while also handling minor facility and equipment fixes as needed. All work is done while strictly following safety protocols, ensuring our stores stay compliant, operational, and blissfully free of leaks, alarms, or unexpected excitement.

Located across Idaho, Colorado, and Wyoming, Stinker is a family-owned, people-focused convenience leader. Led by our Skunktastik Mascot, Polecat Pete, Stinker's purpose is to make our world a better place by being a bright spot in the lives we touch- one employee, one customer, and one community at a time. Plus, we don't take ourselves too seriously- come on, we have a skunk as a mascot! We look for opportunities to have fun each day and ensure we make decisions that put our people first.

Now, what's in it for you when you join Pete's Posse? Well, not only do you get to work with an amazing crew, but you also get a whole bunch of perks that makes life smell even sweeter. We're all about taking care of our people, and here's how we do it:

  • Competitive Pay with merit-based raises, and profit sharing twice a year- because when the company does well, we celebrate with you!
  • Access to the DailyPay app- so you can access your hard-earned cash whenever life strikes, in advance of regular paydays.
  • 6 paid holidays a year, and if you do work on a holiday, you get time and half as a thank you!
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) that grows with your tenure, so the longer you're with us, the more time you get to relax!
  • Referral Rewards-you can earn cash by referring friends to join the Stinker team, if your friend gets hired! Your friends get a great job, and you get a sweet reward!
  • Health Benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and options for a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help you save for healthcare costs or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for medical and dependent care expenses, as well as accident coverage and optional life insurance.
  • Free Virtual Medical Services through Teladoc, so you can handle minor health issues from the comfort of your home.
  • 401(k) with a skunktastic annual company match that grows with your tenure, because we want to help you build a secure future!
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to help you with life's challenges- whether it's managing stress, tackling financial issues, or navigating legal questions, the EAP provides support.
So, are you ready to join a fun, growing company that values not just customers and the community, but our team members who make it all possible? At Stinker, we don't just want you to have a job- we want you to have a career where you thrive, have fun, and grow with us. Because when you succeed, we all succeed!

What You'll Do
  • Complete, document, and support all required monthly, annual, and triennial UST/AST inspections and testing in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, including ID-DEQ, OPS, and WY-DEQ, so our tanks pass inspections on the first try and no one has to say, "We'll be back.".
  • Prepare sites for and be present during regulatory inspections, making sure everything is inspection-ready, compliant, and free of surprises.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and respond to automatic tank gauge alarms and warnings, dispatching repair needs to internal teams or external vendors- because alarms should prompt action, not panic.
  • Coordinate with fuel contractors and vendors to ensure all work meets company standards for service, safety, and repair quality, since "close enough" is not part of the fuel business.
  • Utilize the maintenance management system to track tasks, inspections, work orders, follow-up actions, and closeouts, because if it's not documented, it didn't happen.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of fuel system regulations, safety requirements, and equipment standards, analyzing every manual, bulletin, and directive- "oops, I didn't read that part" is not a valid strategy.
  • Team up with Risk Management to ensure a safe environment and strong internal controls- keeping surprises to a minimum and compliance to a maximum.
  • Cut downtime, crush work orders, and dish out field feedback, because keeping everything running smoothly is way more satisfying than explaining why nothing's working.
  • Complete all required training and adapt to changes in procedures, regulations, and business needs, "winging it" isn't a strategy (even if it feels like one sometimes).
  • Exhibit professionalism with organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, and integrity- managing multiple priorities so smoothly it looks like magic (or at least highly caffeinated wizardry).
  • Work well with coworkers, leaders, contractors, and remote teams, communicating clearly and respectfully- so everyone stays on the same page, and nobody accidentally invents a never seen before fuel crisis.
What You'll Need
  • Ability to learn new concepts, stay organized, and effectively manage time, maintaining a high level of attention to detail while multitasking (there are a lot of moving pieces and skunks headed in every direction!).
  • Solution-focused thinking. We get 5 minutes to complain and then we kick tail!
  • Ability to act as an agent for change; being flexible and patient, open to suggestions, and have an eye for opportunities to improve processes.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma, because reading, writing, and basic math are surprisingly helpful when working with fuel systems.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a UST compliance, pump tech, or fuel equipment technician- so you know your way around a tank, a pump, and probably a few "what just happened?" situations.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)--so emails get sent, reports get written, and spreadsheets don't revolt.
  • This role requires using tools, climbing ladders, navigating tight spaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs, all while standing, walking, or stooping in weather conditions that range from pleasant to "why did I wear pants today?".
  • Must consent to and pass a background check- how else are we supposed to know if you're 3 skunks in a trench coat or not?
  • Must be comfortable working while surrounded by furry friends (that's right, we're dog friendly!).
  • Work is performed under normal office working conditions in a temperature-controlled environment, may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal.
