POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Rigger Specialist responsible for setting up rigging for construction projects or manufacturing plants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with equipment operators using proper hand signals.
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and instructions to execute tasks accurately.
- Utilize measuring tools such as tape measures and squares for precise measurements.
- Understand plant layouts, including Plant North and drawing coordinates.
- Have a thorough knowledge of rigging equipment, including their capacities and applications.
- Inspect all rigging equipment for wear and damage before use.
- Attach slings, chokers, and spreader bars to materials for moving as needed.
- Move materials and equipment into position using hoists or other equipment.
- Act as a safety observer during equipment lifts and assist in the pre-planning of lifts.
- Signal to equipment operators for load direction and placement during lifts.
- Climb structures to ensure accurate load guidance and positioning.
- Assist in securing loads before detaching them from equipment.
- Perform daily safety checks on equipment.
- Complete necessary documentation and reporting.
- Address safety hazards appropriately and responsibly.
- Support other crafts as needed and communicate effectively about project status.
- Remain flexible to work different shifts and overtime as required.
- Work under production pressure to meet accuracy standards.
- Execute duties safely and as per assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 4 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Certification as a rigger from NCCER, NCCCO, or an approved third-party certification body.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with health and safety guidelines relevant to construction.
- Participate actively in daily toolbox meetings with team members.
- Demonstrate safe work behavior consistently.
- Understand and interpret safety rules and operation manuals.
- Ability to perform operations involving weight measurement and volume.
- Follow detailed instructions in both written and oral formats.
- Achieve certification for operating project site mobile cranes when required.
- Wear safety toe boots as per company policy.
- Adhere to all state, company, and federal health and safety guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work area after each task.
- Possess knowledge of equipment safety and maintenance requirements.
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Fluency in English for effective communication.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts under various outdoor conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Maintain stamina for continuous physical tasks over extended periods.
- Adapt to changing environmental conditions such as weather and site variables.
- Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, and noise.
- Comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability to navigate cluttered, confined, and uneven spaces.
- Willingness to work at heights and adhere to safety regulations.
- Visual and auditory abilities sufficient to carry out job responsibilities.
- Coordinate movements effectively.
