Essential Functions
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on pressurized irrigation systems that are supplied by pumps and wells and controlled by variable frequency drives. Performs seasonal start-up and winterization of pumps and irrigation systems.
  • Performs grounds maintenance and pesticide application to areas managed and maintained by the city. Utilizes mowers, trimmers, edgers, aerators and pesticide application equipment to ensure parks are properly maintained. Inspects landscapes and turf for pests, makes recommendations for treatments and implements treatment using hand or large-scale application equipment.
  • Uses tractors, turf sweepers, mowers and related tools and equipment to remove leaves during fall months. Performs snow removal and de-icing during the winter months utilizing shovels, chemicals, tractors, loaders, plows and related tools. Operates a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, turf maintenance equipment and heavy-duty equipment such as backhoes and trenchers as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Creates and maintains chemical log including inventory of chemicals and supplies used to complete assigned tasks. Attends classes and training sessions to gain and maintain certifications. Uses printed or electronic blueprints, schematics and maps to locate irrigation lines, boundaries, and plans for duties in the field. Provides responses to 3rd party facility locate requests.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in landscaping, park maintenance or similar agricultural experience.
Knowledge of:
  • Pesticide application and related equipment.
  • Pest management techniques.
  • Turf grasses and related park maintenance.
  • Irrigation system installation, repair and winterization.
  • Computer usage including related software.
  • Equipment such as tractors, trucks, air compressors, mowers, blowers and hand power tools such as drills and saws and their related safety standards.
Ability to:
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools required and use all required safety equipment
  • Identify when additional help is needed and prioritize additional tasks while in the field
  • Respond appropriately to citizen inquiries
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • Four years of experience working in park maintenance or related turf maintenance field experience.
  • Possession of a valid Idaho Professional Applicator license.
Licensing And Other Requirements
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain an Idaho Professional Applicator license within six months of employment.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds, frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, frequently pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is always moderate and frequently very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
  • The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids and chemicals. Employees work around animals and insects, spiders, snakes, and in and around moving traffic. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals. Employees will encounter icy conditions while preforming snow removal.
  • This position works: a rotating on-call shift for snow removal, holidays, and special events as required; early mornings for chemical applications.
