West Ada School District is seeking a collaborative leader to serve as our Administrator of Security and Behavior. Salary Range: $111,194 - $132,887/year DOE with a comprehensive benefits package.

Purpose

The Administrator of Security and Behavior is a member of the Academic Leadership team, providing district-wide leadership to ensure safe, secure, and behaviorally supportive learning and working environments across all West Ada School District facilities. The position oversees and directs district and school-level security, safety and behavior systems, ensuring alignment with best practices in school safety, Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), emergency management, and student support. This role partners closely with school administrators, Operations teams, and law enforcement agencies to proactively prevent incidents and effectively respond to crises.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer of Student Success. The Administrator leads and supervises designated security, safety and behavior staff and provides districtwide guidance and support to school administrators. The role collaborates closely with families, Operations teams, and external agencies, including law enforcement, to ensure consistent, proactive, and compliant security and behavior practices across the district.

Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Safety and Security Leadership

  • Provide leadership for districtwide school safety and security programs, including building security, access control, surveillance systems, and emergency communications.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of safety and security standards across all district facilities.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability assessments and oversee corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Operations teams (Facilities, Maintenance, Transportation, and Technology) to ensure safe, secure, and well-maintained school environments.
Crisis Response and Incident Management
  • Serve as the district lead for crisis response, emergency preparedness, and incident management.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of district and school emergency operations plans.
  • Ensure alignment with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Provide training and support to administrators and staff related to emergency response procedures.
  • Lead or support district-level response to critical incidents and coordinate with local, state, and federal emergency responders.
  • Facilitate after-action reviews and continuous improvement following incidents.
Behavior Systems and Positive Behavior Supports
  • Lead the development and implementation of districtwide behavior systems grounded in Positive Behavior Supports (PBS).
  • Ensure classrooms and schools are safe, inclusive, and behaviorally supportive of academic learning.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to integrate PBS within MTSS and instructional practices.
  • Analyze behavior, discipline, and safety data to guide prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Support professional learning related to behavior management, de-escalation, and trauma-informed practices.
Program Management and Collaboration
  • Provide guidance and support to building administrators in implementing safety and behavior systems.
  • Coordinate staffing, deployment, and training of safety and behavior personnel.
  • Partner with Student Services, Operations, and other district departments to align efforts and resources.
  • Serve as liaison to law enforcement, emergency management, and community partners.
Policy, Compliance, and Reporting
  • Develop and recommend district policies, administrative procedures, and protocols related to safety, security, and behavior.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for district leadership and the Board of Trustees.
  • Manage assigned budgets and resources.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  • Principles, best practices, and current research related to school safety, security, emergency management, and crisis response in K-12 educational settings.
  • Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), trauma-informed practices, and behavior intervention frameworks.
  • Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance related to school safety, student behavior, student discipline, and student rights, including applicable reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Emergency preparedness systems, including the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Risk assessment, threat assessment, safety audits, and vulnerability assessment methodologies.
  • Data analysis and reporting related to behavior, discipline, safety incidents, and program effectiveness.
  • Collaborative practices for working with school administrators, Operations teams, Student Services, families, and external agencies.
  • Budget development, resource allocation, and program management principles within a public school district.
  • District governance structures, Board of Trustees processes, and policy development practices.
Ability to:
  • Provide districtwide leadership to develop, implement, and sustain effective safety, security, and behavior systems across multiple schools and facilities.
  • Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and best practices to real-world school safety and behavior situations using sound professional judgment.
  • Lead crisis response efforts, coordinate emergency operations, and remain calm, decisive, and effective during high-pressure and time-sensitive incidents.
  • Collaborate effectively with school administrators, Operations teams, Student Services, families, and law enforcement agencies to prevent incidents and respond to emergencies.
  • Lead, supervise, and support staff through coaching, training, performance expectations, and accountability.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, assess risk, and inform proactive prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally-both orally and in writing-on complex, sensitive, and high-visibility issues with diverse audiences.
  • Develop and deliver professional learning related to safety, behavior, de-escalation, and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and consistency across the district.
  • Build trust, foster collaboration, and promote a culture of safety, inclusion, and shared responsibility.
  • Travel frequently between district schools and facilities.
  • Maintain availability outside regular work hours for emergencies and critical incidents.
Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Educational Leadership, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Public Safety, Emergency Management or closely related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Idaho Administrative credential, POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification or other closely related advanced training or certification in school safety, threat assessment, or emergency management highly preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, security, school administration, or a related field, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or administrative role.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading complex systems. Law enforcement, security leadership and/or building administrator experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of school safety practices, incident response, emergency management, and behavior supports. Experience implementing Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) preferred.
  • Training in or demonstrated knowledge of NIMS and ICS.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and confidential matters simultaneously.
  • Must have a valid Idaho driver's license and a vehicle to drive and/or they must provide their own transportation for job related activities. The job related travel during the day will be reimbursed at the approved state mileage reimbursement rate.
