Position Overview
The Operations Leader Merchandise is responsible for operational execution within the Pet Care Center, through the lens of Petcos vision of Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World. The Operations Leader promotes and ensures the efficient and effective merchandising and inventory management operations of the Pet Care Center. This leader ensures all merchandise is accurately received, priced, stocked and backroom is maintained per Petco operational standards. They support training, development, and scheduling of a high-performing team that delivers top-line sales growth, manages shrink, and manages all aspects of the Pet Care Centers business in accordance with Petco operational standards and safety procedures.
Position Responsibilities
- Utilize business acumen to measure, analyze and diagnose business trends and implement business improvement plans;
- Support implementation and execution of Inventory Management through training partners on Shrink, Cycle Counts, Receiving, and RTV/Recall;
- Support implementation and execution of Merchandising Management covering Brand Standards, Pricing, Planogram Accuracy, Door to Floor, and Ad Set through training partners;
- Process register transactions in a way that creates a great experience for each guest;
- Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed;
- Support implementation and execution of Omni Channel through training partners (BOPUS, Ship-from-store, Curbside, Endless Aisle) and overall Guest Experience;
- Ensure the health, proper handling and welfare of all animals, completing hourly checklists and wellness cards;
- Adhere to and promote safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe environment for partners, guests and animals;
- Ensure the backroom and equipment are organized and maintained according to Operating Standards of Excellence;
- Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain store appearance and meet OSE standards;
- Train and develop partners on proper receiving, processing and stocking procedures, WMR and food rotation practices according to Petco standards;
- Abide by and implement all company policies to minimize shrink;
- Manage Return to Vendor and Hazardous Waste processes per Petco policy;
- Ensure store opening/closing follows established policies and procedures;
- Provide support for guest experience, training, communication and maintenance of company initiatives, legal compliance, safety and promotions;
- Train, coach and develop operations partners with the sales team;
- Promote a positive leadership culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration;
- Display and champion Petco Leadership Expectations.

- Promote safety by ensuring all policies, procedures and standards are observed and new ones properly implemented;

- Prioritize talent development, maintaining a strong bench of partners capable of executing company plans and objectives through development programs and leadership opportunities;

Education And Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college level business/management courses preferred.
- 1+ years of management experience required (2+ years preferred).
- Must hold a valid drivers license.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other IT applications required.
- Strong guest service, instructional ability and people?development focus.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Directly supervise Operations Specialists & Operations Generalists;
- Provide quick, courteous service to all guests within the Pet Care Center;
- Ensure high merchandising standards are maintained;
- Guarantee the center is opened/closed according to policies; maintain attendance processes.
- Promote safety for partners, guests and pets.
Work Environment
The role provides support during key operational hours, with weekend availability. Most duties are conducted indoors, though occasional merchandising stocking, customer carry?outs and bank deposits are required. The position may involve bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50?lb and standing for long periods. Adequate safety precautions and procedures are essential. Limited travel may be required.
Contacts
This position has continuous contact with the public at the Pet Care Center and at Pet Care Center?related events, as well as regular contact with other departments, Distribution Centers and Support Centers. External coordination may involve merchandise returns, part ordering, repairs, vaccination clinics, events and vendor meetings.
