Scion Legal has been engaged to lead a confidential search on behalf of a respected and growing California based law firm seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join its expanding practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned workers' compensation defense attorney who is seeking a predominantly remote role, values ownership of sophisticated matters, and is eager to contribute to the continued growth of a collaborative and well supported practice.

This role is well suited for an attorney with an exclusive workers' compensation defense background who values proactive case management, strong carrier relationships, and a professional, collegial work environment.

What You'll Bring to the Table

  • Minimum of 3 or more years of workers' compensation defense experience
  • Exclusive or primary focus on workers' compensation defense matters
  • Demonstrated experience managing workers' compensation cases from inception through final resolution
  • Strong background handling discovery, depositions, hearings, and appearances
  • Experience working closely with insurance carriers, employers, and third party administrators
  • Excellent legal research, writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Commitment to proactive, efficient, and strategic case management
  • Active membership in the State Bar of California in good standing
  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited institution
Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience handling complex or high volume workers' compensation defense caseloads
  • Ability to manage in person appearances while maintaining a remote based practice
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines
  • Client service oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to practice
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proven ability to independently manage workers' compensation defense matters through resolution
Role Details
  • Practice Area: Workers' Compensation Defense
  • Experience Level: Associate Attorney
  • Billable Requirement: 195 hours per month
  • Work Model: Approximately 90 percent remote, with some in person attendance required for hearings, depositions, appearances, and mandatory meetings
  • Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience, including quarterly bonus opportunities
Salary Ranges by Experience Level
  • 1 to 3 years of experience: $100,000
  • 3 to 5 years of experience: $150,000
  • 5 to 7 years of experience: $200,000
  • 7 to 10 years of experience: $210,000
  • 10 or more years of experience: $220,000
