Help keep Boise's sports fields and recreation facilities safe, beautiful, and game-ready! As a Sport Fields Maintenance Worker, you'll support the care and maintenance of City sports fields and facilities by performing general repairs, conducting routine inspections of irrigation systems and equipment, and using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices to protect and sustain healthy plant life. You'll operate a variety of small to medium-sized equipment and power tools while working closely with a supportive team under direct supervision. Essential Functions
Performs maintenance and repairs on pressurized irrigation systems supplied by pumps and wells and controlled by variable frequency drives. Inspects and adjusts irrigation system components. Performs seasonal start-up and winterization of pumps and pipes. Ensures proper settings and configuration of system timer clocks. Maintains detailed documentation of all tasks, including inventory and supply tracking, inspection forms and site irrigation maps.
Assists with maintenance of sports fields as directed. Performs duties including laying out sports fields, routine paint striping, installing bases and sleeves, chain link fence installation and repair, infield material leveling and additions, replacing lights in outfield fixtures, removing ridges, and leveling and replacing sod. Conducts basic maintenance and repairs on equipment such as mules, trucks, blowers, tractors, trenchers, mowers and weed trimmers, and performs monthly safety inspections on sports facilities. Performs minor plumbing and construction repairs, hard surface maintenance, bleacher and bench maintenance, and fence panel welding. Installs sunscreens and cleans restrooms.
Assists with plant maintenance by inspecting trees, grass and shrubs for infestation or disease and utilizes IPM principles to ensure healthy plant life. Provides input on watering requirements of plant material, and provides recommendations for irrigation system adjustments. Assists with the maintenance and rehabilitation of the landscape by installing sod, spreading seeds and fertilizers, performing aerification duties, and planting shrubs and trees. Prunes trees and shrubs and conducts large-scale turf mowing and trimming. Operates various equipment, including hand and power tools, turf maintenance equipment, and heavy equipment such as backhoes and trenchers as necessary to complete assigned tasks.

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Knowledge of:
Sports field basics.
Plant and shrub maintenance.
Pest management techniques.
Including pesticide application and related equipment.
Irrigation systems installation, repair and winterization.
Equipment such as tractors, trucks, air compressors, mowers, blowers and hand and power tools.
Ability to:
Perform essential functions outdoors in all weather conditions on a 24/7 basis.
Identify and prioritize additional tasks while in the field.
Safely operate all equipment and tools required.
Safely utilize related protective gear and safety equipment.
Identify when additional help is needed.
Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations.
Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
Complete assignments in a timely fashion.
Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver's license.
Must be able to obtain an Idaho Pesticide Applicators License issued by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture within 6 months of employment.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds, frequently pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is occasionally very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Employees will encounter icy conditions while performing snow removal.
This position works: weekends, evenings and holidays as required.
