The City of Boise is hiring for Industrial Mechanics at our Water Renewal Facility! Join a skilled maintenance team supporting the City's advanced water renewal (wastewater treatment) and public works operations. This hands-on role focuses on mechanical maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment including pumps, motors, valves, piping, and process systems. Daily work includes welding and fabrication, rebuilding equipment, operating shop tools and heavy equipment, and keeping critical systems running safely and reliably.

Essential Functions

Performs corrective and preventive mechanical maintenance, repair, replacement, installation and operation of wastewater process equipment. Repairs, modifies and rebuilds worn or damaged equipment. Performs mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, rebuilding, installation, pipe fitting, plumbing, welding and fabrication. Operates light, medium and heavy hand, pneumatic and electric tools, chain pull hoists, power saws, forklifts and overhead cranes. Fabricates, welds and cuts parts and accessories utilizing welders, torches and a wide array of hand and power tools. Utilizes computer programs to enter data and create maintenance records to ensure compliance with local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws. Reads and interprets blueprints and technical manuals to research and order parts and equipment. Performs general design and fabrication of complex mechanical systems. Operates and maintains advanced shop fabrication tools, lathes, presses and milling machines. Works with all types of metals, wood, fiberglass and plastic materials. Attends and completes assigned training to ensure compliance with city, state and federal regulations and maintain professional licensing and certification. Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment. Reviews design documents, industry publications and equipment specifications to advise and recommend equipment selection. Assists in evaluating and setting maintenance standards and safety procedures. Acts as part of the facilities management team to identify maintenance needs and coordinates maintenance projects. Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, installing, fitting pipe, plumbing and fabricating in a maintenance or industrial setting, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Knowledge of:

  • Engines, pumps, valves, compressors, electrical circuits and process instrumentation, low and high-voltage electrical systems
  • Occupational safety standards and hazards
  • Practices and equipment used in pipefitting, welding, plasma cutting and fabricating
  • Shop geometry
  • Hazards associated with industrial maintenance, including corrosion properties of metals
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
  • Computer usage, including related software.

Ability to:

  • Read and interpret technical manuals
  • Interpret and apply safety data sheets (SDS) data and other safety procedures
  • Maintain state and city-required licenses and certificates
  • Safely operate related equipment and tools
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training Four years of experience in maintenance in a class IV advanced water renewal (wastewater treatment) facility or industrial setting, a formal degree in maintenance management and practices, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensing And Other Requirements Valid state-issued driver's license. Ability to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I certificate or Operator in Training (OIT) within six months of employment. Special Requirements Applicants must be able to pass: City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation Driving Record Check Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire.
