This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

This job performs a wide variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance, and set-up of Expo Idaho, including Western Idaho Fair and associated buildings; provides promoter support during interim events.

Essential functions include:

  • Ensuring that facilities are set-up, presentable, and meet client's expectations for interim events;
  • Assisting, setting-up, and providing power needs and other amenities for interim events;
  • Performing light janitorial duties to maintain overall cleanliness of facilities;
  • Maintaining grounds;
  • Conducting routine, preventative maintenance on tools or building equipment;
  • Inspecting and examining buildings, fixtures, and other functional systems to determine the need for repair or maintenance;
  • Recording documentation of maintenance and repair work;
  • Performing a variety of minor building or landscaping maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, and sprinkler repair;
  • Assisting in a helper capacity in more semi-skilled work such as plumbing, electrical, or related tasks;
  • Using a variety of hand and power tools;
  • May train to operate heavy equipment, such as forklifts, as needed;
  • Communicating with clients and co-workers in an effective and professional manner.

Additional functions include:

  • Assisting event coordinator, security, and other staff to accomplish needed tasks;
  • Transporting, following policies, and supervising crews with sheriff's labor detail (SLD) in the performance of a wide variety of unskilled labor tasks;
  • Performing related functions as required.

Job requirements include:

  • Previous maintenance experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of facilities preferred;
  • Knowledge of how to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and work with simple fractions to measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions;
  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance;
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and protocols;
  • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers;
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or written instructions;
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to clients and patrons;
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools safely;
  • Ability to lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles safely, including a willingness to learn how to operate a backhoe, forklift, and dump truck;
  • Ability to read understand maintenance/service manuals.

Other requirements include:

  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver's license;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including long or unusual hours, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime, including a 24-hr call out in order to respond to unforeseen events;
  • Attend SLD Safety Training twice a year.

Work environment and physical demands include:

  • Work is performed onsite at Expo Idaho;
  • Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather and heavy equipment traffic;
  • The incumbent may be required to wear safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, or additional personal protective equipment as needed;
  • Incumbent works from ladders, aerial platforms, and where parts worked on may be in hard to reach places;
  • Occasionally work may require heights up to 60 feet;
  • The work may require the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions;
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • May be exposed to the possibility of burns, cuts, and bruises;
  • Uses tools, ladders, and outdoor power equipment which require care to avoid injury;
  • Ability to work around livestock and related animals.
