Airport Operations Specialist

Join our team as an Airport Security Officer and play a key role in keeping our airport safe and secure! High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license.

Applicants must be able to pass:

  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Essential Functions

Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff:

  • Participates in patrolling airport property by vehicle.
  • Monitors movement and airport access through security access tracking software and responds to all alarms.
  • Monitors and controls multi-faceted enhanced closed-circuit television (CCTV) and access control systems using computer software.
  • Provides customer service to the public and airport community.
  • Maintains lost and found programs.
  • Manages incoming customer service phone calls and assists and guides airlines and airport vendors.
  • Regulates and enforces rules and regulations.
  • Responds to the City of Boise's clerk's office and court proceedings when tickets are contested.
  • Operates and monitors radio and phone systems to communicate airport functions and emergencies on and around the airport.
  • Operates and/or monitors flight information displays, weather displays, runway surface sensor displays, fire detection systems and emergency notifications.
  • Operates computer terminals.
  • Performs security functions and has responsibilities in compliance with 49 CFR 1542, including inspections and patrols.
  • Performs security inspections of people, property, and vehicles in both indoor and outdoor locations using a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Reports airport and airfield conditions.
  • Inspects non-movement areas.
  • Monitors local and regional weather patterns.
  • Reports conditions during winter operations.
  • Monitors airport non-movement areas for foreign object debris (FOD).
  • Responds to all emergencies and medical incidents.
  • Interacts with victims, emergency responders and witnesses and completes appropriate reports.
  • Works and assists the incident command.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Additional Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Knowledge of: FAA and TSA regulations; airport and airline operations and security; federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures related to the operations of a certified, commercial airport; terminal and communication procedures and technical aviation issues, equipment and administration; computer usage including related software; and safety practices and precautions sufficient to recognize and correct hazardous situations.

Ability to: prepare clear and accurate reports; prioritize work and relay information during stressful and emergency situations; adopt and/or modify established practices and procedures to emergency situations; accomplish multiple tasks accurately with frequent interruptions; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

One year of experience conducting TSA 1542 compliance inspections or experience as a pilot, crew member, flight dispatcher or military experience. American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) training and credentials, including "Airport Certified Employee" (ACE) and basic or advanced "Airport Safety and Operations Specialists" (ASOS) Certification. FEMA NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certification.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is always moderate and frequently very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Exposed to paved and unpaved areas, aircraft and vehicle traffic, and winter weather. This position works: varying shifts in a 24/7 operation, including holidays and weekends.
