Position Summary

McAlvain Construction is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Superintendent to join our dynamic team. The Civil Superintendent will be responsible for the overall field supervision and successful execution of complex civil construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a strong leader with exceptional technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership & Management:
    • Direct and oversee all on-site civil construction activities.
    • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules.
    • Coordinate and supervise civil site personnel.
    • Proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
    • Take a lead role in developing and implementing project procedures.
    • Maintain familiarity with owner contract terms.
    • Ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality project close-out procedures.
  • Safety & Quality Assurance:
    • Cultivate a proactive safety culture.
    • Administer and enforce McAlvain's comprehensive safety program.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings, trainings, and audits.
    • Implement and monitor quality control procedures.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Regularly meet with and update Civil Operations Manager.
    • Maintain clear, consistent, and effective communication.
    • Conduct regular site meetings to discuss progress.
    • Document project progress daily.
    • Foster strong relationships with subcontractors.
  • Financial & Resource Management:
    • Monitor project budget and costs.
    • Manage equipment and material logistics.
    • Ensure accurate daily documentation of work orders.
    • Track productivity to ensure daily goals are met.
  • Mentorship & Development:
    • Mentor and provide technical assistance.
    • Identify opportunities for personal development.
    • Support field superintendents and foremen.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience as a Superintendent.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing civil projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods.
  • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze problems, make sound decisions.
  • Proficiency with construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field.
