Corporate Controls Engineer

Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Controls Manager to join our Boise corporate team. This position will be responsible for spearheading the transformation of our controls department by carrying out the adoption of advanced fully automated systems to elevate operational efficiency and reliability across three Amalgamated facilities. The successful candidate will direct, oversee, and ensure the standardization of control systems, while implementing cross-departmental training programs to foster development and alignment. The candidate will design, develop, enhance, maintain, and oversee cutting-edge control systems, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in both Emerson's DeltaV Automation and Rockwell's Allen Bradley platforms. This position will report to the Director of Engineering.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Strategize and Architect Advanced Control Systems: Lead the design, development, and implementation of state-of-the-art control systems to ensure machinery and processes operate with maximum efficiency, safety, and reliability, leveraging advanced technologies.
  • Drive Automation Excellence: Spearhead the optimization and continuous improvement of automation processes by developing innovative control logic standards ensuring seamless compatibility and reliability.
  • Direct Platform-Agnostic Control Logic Development: Oversee the creation of highly adaptable and scalable control logic frameworks that can be effortlessly modified to support a wide range of platforms, including various PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
  • Establish and Enforce Control Systems Standards: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive control systems standards, including advanced program logic, alarm rationalization methodologies, schematics, process flow diagrams, and technical documentation, to ensure consistency and compliance across all facilities.
  • Champion Technical Expertise and Training: Provide strategic leadership in delivering advanced technical support and developing robust training programs for operations and maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of continuous learning and system mastery.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably with an emphasis in controls.
  • Proven experience with Emerson's DeltaV Automation and Rockwell's Allen Bradley platforms.
  • Strong understanding of information technology (IT), operation technology (OT), and cyber security.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the sugar industry and/or related industry.
  • Experience with manufacturing controls in a heavy chemical type of processing industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of other automation platforms and control systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
