JOB SUMMARY

The Test Equipment Engineer intern is responsible for learning to design, development, document, test, and evaluate activities for assemblies that test components, sub-assemblies, and finished goods products that meet the cost, performance and timeliness requirements defined within ESG's Product Planning Process (P3 Process). Investigate, develop, and implement new technologies, tools, and processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  • Identify, design, and build engineering test fixtures and equipment where appropriate.
  • Actively participate on new product development teams, to ensure products are developed according to internal and external standards and regulations.
  • Read and understand various standards, regulations, and customer requirements, and how they relate and apply to the respective products.
  • Review & approve mechanical & finished goods drawings.
  • Write assembly instructions (AI's), work instructions, and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Develop production jigs, assembly fixtures & crimping tools for domestic & international manufacturing.
  • Write clear, concise, and accurate test plans, interpretations, and technical reports.
  • Identify, research, recommend, and implement engineering test instruments and equipment per defined parameters outlined in applicable standards and procedures.
  • Maintain all test records according to ESG's quality system.
  • Maintain engineering hardware in compliance with ESG's calibration process.
  • Exercise sound judgement, integrity, and consistency in all test decisions and actions.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills:
  • In the process of acquiring a B.S. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC circuits
  • Computer literate and proficient
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects at one time.
  • Exercise good communication and organizational skills
Desired:
  • SolidWorks training or experience.
  • Understanding of industry document control practices & ability to adhere to ESG's documentation processes.
  • Experience rapid prototyping parts, fixtures & products, both subtractive (machined) & additive (grown).
  • Good understanding of LED, speaker & driver theories of operation.
  • Good understanding of electrical & electronic systems & components.
  • Ability to set-up, record & analyze acoustic measurements (SPL, frequency, etc.).
  • Ability to set-up, record, and analyze light measurements (color, luminous flux & intensity, flash rate).
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, production yield metrics (process capability, Cpk, Gauge R&R) & production test procedures (alarms & lights preferred).
  • Good understanding of test techniques for product validation, product verification & Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Manual dexterity for such duties as: assembly, soldering, and building.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills to effectively resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritizes effectively, and to meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with efficiency and accuracy with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the team member or others.

The team member is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The team member is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The team member must regularly lift and move up to 20 pounds.
