Job Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the design and procurement of protecting relaying equipment for substations, switchyards, and development of detailed site physical drawings. They are accountable for adherence to design/construction scope processes. The Engineering Supervisor works closely with the client to ensure quality design, provides field support and project management during construction activities as required. The Engineering Supervisor may be involved in physical and Protection and Control Commissioning and will supervise a team of Engineering Designers and Drafters.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university, emphasis on Power
  • 5+ years of experience with substations and co-ops
  • Management and training experience preferred
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Certification (preferred, not required)
  • PE License (preferred, not required)
  • Adherence to Rural Utilities Services (RUS) standards for physical substation design
  • Experience working in the electric utility industry
  • Detailed understanding of grounding/shielding analysis and concepts
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following skillsets:
    • SCADA, automation, relay settings, RTU configuration, substation physical electrical design, and Protection & Controls engineering terms and concepts

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Train, coach, supervise, and mentor Engineers.
  • Identify proper protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations, based on standards and client expectations.
  • Select proper protection devices for equipment within a substation.
  • Prepare scopes of work and estimates for evaluating and designing substations, both physical and protection and control.
  • Identify proper equipment sizing and selection and prepare specifications.
  • Prepare specification for labor erection.
  • Ensure the maintenance and adherence of customer standards as it pertains to relay protection.
  • Interface with clients and vendors.
