POSITION SUMMARY:
The principal function of an employee in this class is to develop and implement fitness and health training programs. The work is performed under the supervision of the Fitness Supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, community and neighborhood organizations, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a recreational and fitness environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Maintains a safe environment for fitness training, including inspecting equipment for damage, following proper protocol and current guidelines, providing information and assistance to customers regarding proper exercise techniques, and current fitness standards.
• Plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, and evaluates various fitness assessments, protocols, and programs for customers of all levels of fitness and health; including administering fitness assessments, screening for physical or medical conditions, developing safe programs, and implementing the programs to meet individual customer needs.
• Maintains thorough and accurate records of safety and inspection for all equipment utilized by customers, including updating a maintenance log of each equipment piece and the related working condition, and providing written documentation for service workers in order to forewarn of faulty or dangerous equipment in need of repair.
• Promotes special events for customers and community members, including developing and implementing special events when necessary.
• Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
• Performs specialized personal training with the proper credentials and supervisors' approval.
• Fosters relationships with customers, coworkers, and others.
• Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, certifications, and new developments in assigned work areas.
• Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of study: Related Health or Fitness Field.
• 1 plus years of Fitness Training Experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work, or willingness to be trained
• Nationally recognized Personal Training Certification or ability to complete within 6 months of employment.
• Specialty Certification required for Kettlebell, TRX, Nutrition, (others deemed as necessary by National Organizations)
• CPR/AED certification with a hands-on skills assessment completed in person.
• Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Some knowledge of safety principles, current practices and equipment related to the fitness class assigned.
• Some knowledge of principles for dealing with people of various ages and from various socio-economic groups.
• Some knowledge of human anatomy and physiological function as it relates to specific classes.
• Ability to follow physician instructions as related to customers with various therapeutic and health needs.
• Ability to perform detailed and accurate assessments.
• Ability to maintain flexibility in completing assigned tasks and duties while meeting the needs of customers.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of customer service needs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
• Ability to understand and follow and/or written policies, procedures, instructions, and use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions.
• Ability to apply integrity, ingenuity, inventiveness, and empathy in the performance of assigned
