The Idaho State Tax Commission is recruiting for two Tax Auditor 1* positions in the Audit Division. Tax Auditors interact with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns and prepare reports of findings, conclusions, or recommendations.

*This is an underfill. The position is reclassified to Tax Auditor 2 upon successful completion of requirements, with a minimum starting rate of $27.70 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate with taxpayers and representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns.
  • Review accounting systems, financial statements, tax and payroll records, and related documents.
  • Research and analyze data for accuracy and compliance with state tax laws.
  • Identify legal issues and apply statutes, rules, and precedents.
  • Travel to taxpayers' offices to conduct audits (dependent on position).
  • Prepare audit findings and summaries.
  • Participate in team audits.
  • Audit tax types including business, individual income, estate, mine license, property, sales and use, and withholding.
Minimum Qualifications

Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. New college grads are encouraged to apply!

Completion of one of the following:

  • 20 upper-division accounting credits, including Intermediate Accounting I & II
  • OR 12 accounting credits including Accounting I & II AND at least 2 years of professional accounting experience applying GAAP
  • OR at least 4 years of professional accounting experience applying GAAP

Students in their last semester of a Bachelor's program in Accounting or Business with an accounting emphasis are encouraged to apply and may be placed on the hiring list.
