POSITION SUMMARY:
The principal function of an employee in this class is to maintain the mechanical and biological operations of the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a sewer environment, where exposure to hazardous chemicals, airborne and waterborne pathogens, roadway traffic, and high-voltage electricity is common.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Inspects, maintains, and repairs the sanitary sewer collection system and sanitary collection system lines to ensure safe and efficient operation, including inspecting lines, manholes, and lift stations to determine necessary maintenance and repair using complex equipment, including television equipment to inspect new and existing lines.
Operates a variety of complex sewer line cleaning equipment, including the hydrocleaning truck and other related equipment to remove debris from collection system lines, television inspection devices, and other related tools and equipment as required.
Maintains sewer line cleaning equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, including basic maintenance and repair of television equipment, hydrocleaner pumps, pump control panels, and other related equipment as required.
Provides inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair of sewer lift stations throughout the City, including inspecting pumps and motors, checking meters, lubricating parts, packing pumps, and completing maintenance reports as required.
Provides information to contractors, the general public, and other utility representatives regarding underground line locations as requested.
Ensures public and operational safety, including coordinating with other City services and addressing citizens' complaints or problems, provides requested information, and/or takes the appropriate measures to ensure an expedient resolution of citizen satisfaction.
Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required.
Valid State of Idaho Class A Commercial Driver's License: Preferred
Valid State of Idaho Class B Commercial Driver's License: Required within 6 months
Idaho Collection System Class I Certification within 1 year of employment.
1 plus years' experience in Wastewater Collections with Vac Trucks, CCTV, Lift Stations, and SCADA preferred.
Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks, and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
Must live within a thirty-minute response time of the Wastewater treatment Plant.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor over extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
Ability to efficiently read and interpret plans and maps.
Ability to safely and efficiently operate hand and power tools, vehicles, and related maintenance equipment.
Ability to practice safe work practices and make proper use of assigned safety equipment as required.
Ability to serve as an on-call employee for collections (after hours, evenings, holidays, and weekends).
Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions, use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations. Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to the hazardous gases and materials found in a sewer collection system.
