Primary Duties

This Deputy Attorney General position provides representation and counsel to the State of Idaho and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW). The role involves working primarily with the Division of Management Services on issues related to contracts, procurement, finance, facilities, and internal audit. Responsibilities include advising on federal and state laws applicable to government contracting, contract drafting and analysis, administrative actions, appeals, policy review, and public records law.

Essential Functions

  • Review existing and proposed contracts or procurement ideas to identify legal requirements, risks, and strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Interact with IDHW and OAG personnel to provide legal support and answer questions, in meetings both in-person and virtual.
  • Engage with third parties and their counsel, both in-person and virtual.
  • Provide training to IDHW and OAG staff, both in-person and virtual.
  • Draft clear and accurate legal analyses based on thorough research.
  • Utilize technology for research and drafting memoranda.
  • Respond promptly to requests via email and phone.
  • Perform oral presentations, including training or court appearances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Admission to the Idaho State Bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum two years of relevant legal and technical experience or coursework.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to perform transactional work independently.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including writing, editing, and customer service.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and able to develop professional relationships with staff.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
