Traffic Safety Engineer

Ready to make an impact on your career, client projects, and the community? Burgess & Niple is currently seeking an experienced Traffic Safety Engineer to join our national Transportation Safety Team and expand our safety practice to new geographies. This position can be filled in the following B&N offices: Cincinnati, Columbus, Mentor, or Louisville, KY in Ohio; Boise, ID; Indianapolis, IN; or Portland, OR.

B&N Traffic Safety Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the growing national safety practice and work on projects across the country.
  • Lead the development of Vision Zero Action Plans, Regional Safety Plans, Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Plans, Vulnerable Road User Assessments, Strategic Highway Safety Plans (SHSPs), and other safety planning efforts nationwide.
  • Perform and review safety analyses.
  • Advise on projects involving the Safe System Approach (SSA), proven safety countermeasures and strategies, and the Highway Safety Manual.
  • Attend conferences to share knowledge with safety professionals across the country.
  • Assist with the development and mentoring of junior staff to help them grow into safety professionals.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
  • 7+ years of related experience in Transportation Engineering, Safety Planning, or other engineering studies or analyses.
  • PE registration required; RSP preferred.
  • Expertise in the Safe System Approach, Vision Zero, and other safety principles, as well as project management skills.
  • Proven verbal, presentation, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office is required; prior experience with IHSDM is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, including the ability to learn virtual collaboration tools.
