The Idaho State Board of Education (Board) is established in the Idaho Constitution for the “general supervision of the state educational institutions and public school system.” State law charges the Board with the general supervision, governance and control of public schools and postsecondary institutions, including community colleges. The Board is comprised of eight members: seven appointed by the Governor, as well as the statewide elected superintendent of public instruction. The Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE) is charged with providing professional staff support to the Board and implementing the Board's policies, programs, and initiatives.
Summary:
The Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE) is seeking an accomplished and collaborative professional to serve as Associate Academic Officer (AAO). This leadership position is responsible for advancing academic policy initiatives across Idaho's postsecondary education system and plays a critical role in supporting the strategic priorities of the Idaho State Board of Education. The AAO works closely with OSBE staff and public postsecondary institutions to identify needs, align resources, and promote system-wide student success. A key responsibility of this role is to advance the Board's vision for dual credit as a pivotal strategy for enhancing postsecondary outcomes. The AAO will lead collaborative efforts with public and private postsecondary institutions, K–12 partners, and other key stakeholders to implement a comprehensive statewide dual credit framework. This effort will include leading the continued development and refinement of policies and practices that align with the system-wide philosophy and long-term vision adopted by the Board.
The AAO reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and serves as a key member of the Board's academic leadership team. This position supervises a team of 3–4 professionals within the Academic Affairs division and coordinates regular engagement with OSBE staff, postsecondary leaders, and other education stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, have demonstrated experience in higher education policy and program development, and have experience managing complex projects across multiple institutions. This is an in-person position based in Boise, Idaho, with the option for limited hybrid work. The rate of pay for this position ranges from $47.00 - $49.00 per hour, equivalent to approximately $97,760.00 - $101,920.00 per year.
