SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

The Senior Environmental Engineer conducts studies, analyzes, and synthesizes data to determine the potential effects of mine development and operation on the environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Collects and synthesizes data from monitoring activities; prepares graphs, charts, and statistical models to support data understanding, tracking, and reporting. Conducts environmental effects assessments and presents results in written and oral reports to corporate and regulatory agencies.
  2. Administers various water quality and other monitoring programs, including performing field sampling, following quality assurance/quality control plans, validating database information, and coordinating with laboratory personnel.
  3. Coordinates reporting for TRI, Biennial EPA Hazardous Waste Report, Annual State Hazardous Waste Report, Annual Bioassessment, WET Test, and Ambient Water Quality Report. Writes and updates technical documents such as SPCC Plan, SWPPP, BMP Plan, Reclamation Plan, SOPs, and Sampling and QA/QC Plans. Calculates reclamation plan bonding requirements for mine closure. Participates in and updates hazardous material/waste minimization, handling, and disposal programs. Assists with spill prevention and response programs.
  4. Utilizes environmental databases (EDMS, Access, Excel) effectively and troubleshoots issues. Participates in the operation, maintenance, data acquisition, and reporting of NPDES monitoring systems.
  5. Develops, administers, and maintains company environmental policies and procedures. Collaborates with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies to stay updated on laws. Ensures all operational activities comply with safety, health, and environmental standards and regulations.
  6. Provides expertise in identifying site risks and hazards, recommending mitigation actions.
  7. Works with stakeholders to ensure compliance with incident reporting procedures.
  8. Participates in internal audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards, and follows up to resolve non-compliance issues.
  9. Conducts and documents site inspections focusing on hazard recognition, regulatory non-conformances, and unsafe behaviors. Collaborates with operations to mitigate hazards and promote environmentally safe behaviors.
  10. Participates in regulatory inspections and investigations to ensure compliance.
  11. Provides guidance to Environmental Engineers and Technicians.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience and education in the environmental field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the environmental sector, with prior mining industry experience preferred.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations related to mining.
  • Knowledge of MSHA, NRC, IDEQ, IDWR, Panhandle Health, EPA regulations concerning environmental health and safety.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
