Sr. Global Clinical Operations Program Director (Respiratory and Immunology)

Description:

The Senior Global Clinical Operations Program Director (Sr GPD) is a pivotal global role within the Clinical Operations function of Late Stage R&D (BioPharmaceuticals and Oncology). This role is accountable to the Global Product Team (GPT) for delivering the agreed clinical development plan and is one of three core members of the Clinical Program Team (CPT). The Sr GPD brings product knowledge and critical thinking and leads the delivery of a program of studies.

Accountabilities

  1. Accountable for oversight of all clinical program activities, ensuring relevant issues within a program are escalated to GPT and for providing clinical operations expertise/input into the program.
  2. Partner effectively with the Global Clinical Head (GCH) and the Biometrics Team Leader to provide leadership, clear direction, and aligned goals to clinical delivery teams.
  3. As a member of the CPT, responsible for efficient and effective program management of all GPT clinical development deliverables, including strategy, design, and delivery of clinical program/studies to scope, quality, budget, and time; managing resources and risks.
  4. Establish and maintain a high-performing team.
  5. Manage the clinical component results of regulatory submissions.
  6. Ensure alignment of clinical strategy, transfer of product knowledge, and champion products transitioning between early and late-stage organizations.
  7. Ensure timely compliance with companywide governance controls and handle clinical plans (cost, FTEs, and timelines) in business reporting systems such as PLANIT.
  8. Act as AstraZeneca decision maker and escalation point with external partners.
  9. Contribute to functional and cross-functional initiatives as Subject Matter Experts.
  10. Mentor, coach, and support people development within Clinical Operations.
  11. Participate in networking within and outside the therapeutic area, sharing best practices and lessons learned.
  12. Act as early adopters for new ways of working and ambassadors for change.

Essential Skills/Experience

  1. Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
  2. Extensive global drug development leadership experience.
  3. Experience across the product life cycle with a focus on late-stage development, ideally across multiple therapeutic areas.
  4. Strong knowledge of clinical operations and a proven track record of program delivery.
  5. Deep understanding of the clinical and pharmaceutical drug development process.
  6. Experience in program management and application of project management techniques in complex projects, including resourcing, financial management, and business case development.
  7. Strong strategic influencing skills with the ability to influence broadly within and outside the organization.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Successful planning, prioritization, and delivery record.
  10. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  1. Ability to drive process improvement and/or functional work.
  2. Regulatory submission experience.
  3. Experience working in Japan and China to deliver global programs.
  4. Proven leadership in guiding teams through change.
