Position Summary:

As a Behavioral Health Support Specialist, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, ensuring a safe and effective treatment environment while communicating with the treatment team to deliver quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care: Implement all aspects of patient care as directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Monitor patients actively and communicate any needs to the Charge Nurse/RN.
  • Observe patients closely and ensure they are engaged in their treatment.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and report significant changes in their condition or behavior.
  • Intervene in behavioral crises using approved methods and participate in providing emergency care as necessary.
  • Assist patients with day-to-day activities like meals, grooming, and mobility.
  • Contribute to the treatment team by implementing individualized care plans.
  • Provide educational resources to patients as needed.
  • Facilitate group activities, adapting plans to fit the needs of patients.
  • Ensure infection control practices are followed by everyone in the facility.

Shift Support:

  • Review and understand daily assignments and communications.
  • Maintain a therapeutic and secure environment for all patients.
  • Stay on duty until the next shift has arrived and received a thorough report.
  • Record and manage any valuables held during patient stays.
  • Ensure patients are discharged with all belongings, medications, and necessary information.
  • Complete environmental safety checks and address any issues with the Charge Nurse/RN.
  • Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals and provide feedback on compliance.

Customer Interaction:

  • Engage with patients, families, and staff respectfully and professionally.
  • Work collaboratively to create a supportive treatment atmosphere.
  • Uphold the dignity and safety of all patients and families.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for medical records.
  • Document key observations, educational activities, and incidents appropriately.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Preferably one year of experience in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Certification/License: CPI/CPR Certified as per policy.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
