Position Summary:
The Department Chair is a faculty position responsible for departmental operations and faculty supervision. The Department Chair also maintains part-time teaching responsibility.
Essential Functions:
- Fulfills faculty responsibilities related to assigned teaching load
- Consults on changes and assigns faculty to annual class schedule
- Conducts teaching observations of all full-time faculty
- Performs evaluations for full-time faculty
- Resolves instructional complaints from students
- Holds regular departmental meetings and maintains open communication with faculty
- Ensures maintenance of accurate department records
- Directs the work of the department related to Dual Credit, Assessment, and Facilities
needs
- Facilitates performance management in timely manner
- Reviews and recommends special course fee changes on a regular schedule
- Supervises recruitment and hiring processes for departmental faculty and staff
- Reviews and approves/denies exceptions to academic requirements
- Prepares department operating budgets
- Conveys by words and action the values expected by CWI
- Performs other duties as assigned within a balanced workload
DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Coordinates outreach and research on the development of additional degree programs and certificates.
- Creates a mentoring and acculturation program for Adjunct Faculty.
- Works with faculty to enlist employers and industry representatives to serve on program advisory committees.
- Delegates faculty members to coordinate Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meetings.
- Maintains and coordinates TAC minutes and is responsible TAC reporting to ICTE
- Responsible for Technical Skills Assessment reporting to Dean.
- Support faculty during the accreditation process.
- Ensures faculty have current industry certifications as required.
- Ensures all CTE faculty have current ICTE credentials.
- Develop an understanding of ICTE credential requirements for new full time CTE faculty.
- Maintain a record of ICTE credentials and renewal dates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related discipline or higher education experience deemed equivalent or commensurate by hiring manager.
- Three years of demonstrated teaching excellence in a variety of courses at the post-secondary level.
- Two years of leadership or supervisory experience. Leadership and supervisory experience in a post-secondary institution preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership behaviors that result in making good decisions aligned with the College's priorities. Encourage team members to perform their duties to achieve priorities. Must possess qualities to inspire the team by; creating transparency in the decision-making process when possible achieving accountability for decisions; inspiring team members to meet and exceed goals and objectives; identifying the strengths and development areas of each team member and inspire them to do their best work in an effective manner.
- Experience in curriculum design, implementation, and oversight.
- Significant knowledge of or experience in a community college setting preferred.
- Experience developing and monitoring budgets.
- Experience in problem-based learning, teaching with an array of distance learning technologies, teaching in blended learning formats and online teaching preferred.
