POSITION PURPOSE:
The Background Coordinator will focus on leading Agri Beef's Northwest Pastures Program with a focus on our STAR commitment: Sustainability, Total Quality, Animal Well-Being and Responsibility. The Northwest Pastures Program is a network of backgrounding yards and grass yearling operations that will manage and care for Agri Beef's calf inventory prior to arriving at our feedyards. This is a highly interactive role involving frequent communication with the Livestock team as well as individuals and businesses outside of the organization. This position will spend a signification amount of time traveling and maximizing current business relationships with a focus on predictable results and established structure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Establish structure and process within the growyard network that follows the Northwest Pastures Cattle Feeding Program
* Measure and set target performance metrics for each location
* Record, organize and execute cattle purchase contracts
* Ensure all Cattle Feeding Agreements are accurate and up to date at all times
* Assist in applying and tracking feed related charges for outside feeding locations; ensure accuracy of charges and execution of payments
* Review, input, and maintain information in the cattle management system (CMS) regarding cattle delivery, movements, and shipment
* Collaborate with the procurement team to execute procurement activities in the region
* Create cattle breakevens and project cattle lot placed
* Work directly with the AB appointed Veterinarian and Nutritionist to monitor health and well-being of cattle as well as establishing and hitting goals
* Work directly with the Feedlot Management Team to address areas of opportunities and align actions to ensure more positive results
* Oversee freight orders by communicating with Procurement, Livestock Inventory Specialist, freight dispatch, and feedyards to ensure that all freight is correct; logistics and feedlot customer service is maximized
* Participate in ongoing projects and initiatives directly working with the AB Livestock and Genetics team, as well as other Teams throughout the company
* Establish and operate within an annual budget focused on cost reduction
* Consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality
* Provide backup to Livestock Inventory Specialists
* Assist in the cattle payment process and be able to fill in if necessary
* Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent customer service skills
* Must have experience working with Microsoft Office and have a proficient skillset in Microsoft Excel
* Thorough knowledge of the beef cattle production industry
* Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
* Ability to travel up to 75% of the time
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
* Minimum of 3-5 years working in the beef industry with an emphasis in live cattle production
