Payroll Specialist

Description:

The Payroll Specialist will work alongside the HR/Payroll Manager on the organization's payroll functions, ensuring that weekly payroll is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This position also assists employees with payroll-related questions. Must be able to work quickly yet efficiently ensuring a high standard of accuracy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing multiple state bi-weekly payrolls for 800+ employees, monthly stipend and bonus payments.
  • Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
  • Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions.
  • Processes payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Processes payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Being familiar with processing benefit paperwork.
  • Being very familiar with the employee onboarding process which includes filling out I-9's and other tax paperwork.
  • Maintains the maintenance of employee records.
  • Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
  • Reconciles payroll to the general ledger.
  • Process unemployment claims as needed.
  • Manage other administrative tasks related to human resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with the Mac operating system.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • HR experience a plus
  • Schooling in accounting or payroll a plus
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience processing payroll.
  • Knowledge of garnishment and unemployment processing.
  • Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now
